The annual member's show will be here before you know it. It features a solo show by Rick Schneider, last year's Best-In-Show. The current issue of the Hampton Arts Calendar has photos of several of his pieces. It also erroneously lists them as being 129" tall! They're actually a bit shorter than that. As a Glass Guild member, the annual show is also your chance to show your stuff to the world!

And, it's time to start thinking about next year's slate of officers. Any volunteers?

Work on the donated artwork for The American Theatre in Phoebus was completed and the panel has been delivered. No photos yet, but we'll get some...

The Towne Bank in Virginia Beach hosted a Guild invitational art show. The show was distributed throughout the multistory bank building, and ran through July 28, 2001.

For the second year in a row, the Guild held a members & friends picnic at Fort Monroe. Turnout was good, and the weather (and food) was great!

The Guild meeting March 25th at VCU's new glass studio was well attended. The drive to Richmond was well worth it as VCU's Rick Schneider gave a demo of the hot glass Australian roll-up. Members who participated in the recent workshop at VCU got to pick up the fruits of that workshop. Fran Ward was on hand to distribute the pieces for the upcoming donated piece for the American Theatre in Phoebus. Members will each create one piece of the work, which will then be joined and assembled to create the finished piece. Click here for "the meeting in pictures".

February 24 & 25, 2001 saw 10 members and others attend a workshop in the glass studios of VCU in Richmond. The workshop, "From Kiln to Glory Hole" featured instruction and work in fusing, combing, use of glass working machinery, and an Australian roll-up of the finished fused glass panels. Jude Schlotzhauer and Rick Schneider hosted the class.

The first meeting of 2001 on January 14th was a time to plan for the new year and pick up work from the recently ended annual show. Design requirements for the piece to be created and donated to the American Theatre in Hampton were handed out. The winning design will be selected in late February.

The last meeting of 2000 was our annual membership meeting with election of officers and drop-off of artwork for the PGG annual show.

Our meeting on September 17 featured previews of three interpretations (in glass of course) of Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night". These are "works-in- progress" and will be finished in time to display (for auction) at the opening of the annual gallery show on December 1st (at Charles H. Taylor Arts Center in Hampton VA).

The show at On the Hill in Yorktown ran through August 30, 2000. Check the "quick look" photos of the show. Of course you'll should have seen it in person to see the detail that the Guild members put into their work, but, Check the pictures anyway!

Our general meeting in March was great. Mr. Craig Wilhoit, CPA, or the firm Goodman & Company, LLP, was our guest speaker. he was able to detangle some of the tax and accounting problems faced by artist and small business owners. Copies of tax information supplied by Mr. Wilhoit will be available at this year's picnic.

The MCV (medical College of Virginia) in Richmond turned out great, Ted Batt coordinated everything as it went into the showcase, creating a beautiful display of glasswork. We wish to thank the Guild members (especially our Richmond area members) who participated in this show and hope to see more work from members at upcoming shows.

In April, Pantera Glass Studio, Norfolk VA held a paperweight workshop. John Quillen demonstrated his ability to not only create art, but to teach as well. Texas' loss and Virginia's gain! Thank you John for your support of the Guild and your Glass Passion.

The Strictly Social members' picnic at Fort Monroe in June was a hit with great food and good friends, but the weather was less than ideal. It was perfect the day before the event, but Sunday turned cold, windy, and rainy. Good thing there was a roof over our heads (even if it did leak in a few places)! Check the pictures.

And finally, applause to
Angie Wellman, Alice Rogan-Nelson, and Heather Hartle of Cristallo Art and Glass Studio in Williamsburg VA. They presented a check for $125 to the Peninsula Glass Guild on May 11, 2000. Thanks to these dedicated Guild members for their support.

Overhead projector available for load to PGG members. Contact Susan Welteroth at 757-868-5009.

We're trying out a new website address (URL) for the Peninsula Glass Guild. Running out of space on the AOL site has necessitated this (too many archive photos from past shows and events!). While we could pay for our own website and domain name, a free site seems to be more likely. So bookmark this new site in case our AOL site disappears! http://glassva.iwarp.com. They're both up for the time being.

back!
