Juror's Statement - Tina Oldknow

As a curator specializing in contemporary glass, I have participated in many juries, but I find that I am always surprised and enchanted by the new work that I discover. This was certainly the case with the Peninsula Glass Guild’s 23rd Juried Exhibition.

As I wandered around the rooms of the historic art center, my first impression was that all of the artists should be applying to The Corning Museum’s annual New Glass Review! So, please do apply. I found almost all of the pieces to be well-executed and well-conceived, and I was impressed by the overall professionalism of the works and of their presentation.

I think the Guild’s exhibition beautifully showcases the variety of objects that can be produced in glass, ranging from blowing, kiln-forming, flameworking, casting, and reverse-glass painting to the mixing of glass with other media, such as metal, wood, and stone. Good art, craft, and design may be found here, and it was a great pleasure for me to experience it.
